Markus Bickel

A postcard from MARKUS BICKEL sent from Kairo, Egypt.
Markus and I know each other quite a long time, we attended the same grammar school and met there some day in the 80s. There are lot of shared memories about growing up in a small town in Germany of the Eighties.

Markus was born 1971 in Caracas/Venezuela. He did several trips through Chiapas, Guatemala, Venezuela, and Brazil in the 1990s. And after finishing journalism school in Munich (DJS) and his studies of political science in Berlin he stayed in the Old World: first as editor of the weekly “Jungle World”, then as Balkans-correspondent, based in Sarajevo. He wrote about the former Yugoslav postwar-republics until 2005, when he left Europe for the Middle East. From Lebanon he reported for Spiegel Online, Die Zeit, and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.). In 2008 he joined Germany’s leading daily as editor. Since 2012 he works as Middle East Correspondent for F.A.Z. in Cairo. http://www.weltkiosk.net/markus-bickel
