Erin Sickler

A postcard from ERIN SICKLER, sent from Albany, NY / USA.  Erin  is a writer and art curator. After working with artists and arts organizations on both East and West coasts, Erin set out on her curatorial career in New York City at PS1/MoMA before serving as Assistant Curator at the Queens Museum and, from 2009 to 2013, as Gallery Director for 601Artspace. In addition, she has mounted independent exhibitions and projects throughout New York City and abroad. She was a founding member of Arts and Labor a group advocating for fair and transparent labor practices in the arts, and has spoken internationally on art and alternative economies. Her writing has appeared in numerous catalogs and blogs as well as Art in America, The Brooklyn Rail, and Artlink. Together with Alexis Bhagat Erin recently founded Art and Context, which  is an “artist-oriented” consulting firm offering affordable advising, professional development and project management to artists. An interview with Erin as well as some of her writings can be found here.

Erin is currently working on a book of first-person essays on art and trauma for which she received the 2014 Millay Colony Residency for Non-Fiction. This is were the both of us met in July 2014 as fellow residents. We spent one month over there, surrounded by forests, beavers, hummingbirds, fireflies, black bears and many other creatures. I very much enjoyed her company, the talks we had about pretty much everything, having dinner with the other residents, drinking wine and smoking cigarettes, watching the sunset over the trees.
